Stoddert ES Modernization

Washington, DC / Ehrenkrantz Eckstut & Kuhn Architect

Just off of DC’s famed ‘Embassy Row’ on a heavily wooded and sloping site in the Glover Park neighborhood, the historic Stoddert Elementary School serves one of the most diverse populations in the city. The 40,000 gsf addition created a new, secure and accessible front door for the school, and provided new classroom and multipurpose space that, when combined with the fully modernized 1932 building, more than tripled the size of the existing school. In addition, a glazed central atrium and open stair act as a functional hinge to the three major program areas.
